We Hold These Truths...
and Our Necessity to Vote

When the founders and Thomas Jefferson crafted the Declaration of Independence, they listed with detail and eloquence the affronts against the American colonies perpetrated by King George and a British Parliament deaf to the pleas of its people.


..."The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world."


Just as King George usurped the power of free men in the colonies, President Obama and the 111th Congress have usurped our rights. Two hundred and thirty four years later we are faced with a new tyranny thrust upon a nation by Democrats who control Congress and the Senate.

Led by a president who finds our founding documents fatally flawed, they are marching this great republic far from the tenets clearly stated in our founding documents.
Our founders stated of King George;

"He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good."

President Obama and the Democrats show an indifference to, or an outright unwillingness in, their sworn duty to uphold the laws of this nation. This is evidenced by both lack of enforcement of this nation’s immigration law, and the despicable actions of the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department.


..."He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures."

The stimulus package was rushed through the Congress against the will of the people and no one read the bill prior to voting for it. Congress has amassed more debt in the last four years than nearly the previous two hundred and thirty years. Unemployment is at record levels.

This administration’s fiscal policies are a disaster. The president misused the powers of the federal government, and nationalized General Motors and Chrysler, leaving state pension funds lacking through the sale of Chrysler to Fiat. He sold Hummer to the Chinese. He ended the brand of Saturn.

He has forced through a student loan bill which radically changed the process and removed local banks options to offer these loans to parents. His administration bullied and cajoled eventually shoving “HealthCare” through against the wishes of a large majority of American citizens in a disgusting display of backroom deals and quid pro quos. He has appointed more than 40 unaccountable “Czars,” who answer to no one but the president, and who write dictates and policy outside of oversight of the Congress to which Americans must adhere.

His administration and congressional Democrats may bristle when Americans call them socialists, but they have nationalized banks, car and insurance companies, student loans and health care. This clearly is not free-market capitalism. Using the EPA and Executive Orders he has wiped out oil jobs in Louisiana with a senseless ban on offshore drilling. This while his administration showed true incompetence and completely bungled their role in cleaning up the recent Gulf spill.

This president made it clear to many Americans that his administration often considers Congress a completely unnecessary component of governance, especially if they don't kowtow to the president's agenda.

..."He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people..."

His party has chosen to not address the issues of huge tax liabilities by refusing to address the Bush Tax cuts before adjournment for the election.

..."He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation"

He has given a group of despots and thugs at the UN a report on US Civil rights abuses. His Ambassador to the UN has signed onto the UN Small Weapons bill. His administration is suing the state of Arizona over their law (SB1070) which mirrors coded United States law. His administration has shown Americans their true colors; unbridled arrogance, utter contempt for the average citizen's intellect, and an iron-fisted, never "waste a crisis" determination to bend the electorate to their will, using government as a club.


..."In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."

These are the reasons the Democrats need to suffer an overwhelming defeat On November 2, 2010. They have governed without our consent.

What a great article! Obama is indeed unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Excellent comparative of the passions that ignited the discontent of Americans then and now. Very nicely done Melody. :pepper

I very much appreciated reading your article. I find myself looking for memories of the way it was growing up. I know I'm late responding to this article but I listen to the recent interviews with Bush because of the book he has recently written and I clearly can see the difference in a president who loves his country and one who wants to destroy the very fabric of it. I listened to Glenn Beck today on George Soros being the grand puppet master and I'm amazed at how much he's accomplished in destroying our nation's economy so fast. Thank you for the your perspective and your eloquent writing.
