HUD Six Livability Principles
As you read these principles, imagine what will have to happen for all these to be accomplished! This is in-your-face-Socialism! We have to confront this head-on or we all will be either at war with the bureaucracy or living meekly in stack and pack housing exactly where the leader's decide. It is seriously past time to make a decision and take a stand.
1. Provide more transportation choices Develop safe, reliable and economical transportation choices to decrease household transportation costs, reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil, improve air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote public health. Since electric cars perform poorly and require fossil fuel, the only way to meet all of these criteria is to walk, ride a bike or use light rail service.
All of this means your new community MUST be a densely populated urban area.
2. Promote equitable, affordable housing Expand location- and energy-efficient housing choices for people of all ages, incomes, races and ethnicities to increase mobility and lower the combined cost of housing and transportation. Your densely populated area will consist of low income housing mixed in with a diverse population as defined by the planners.
3. Enhance economic competitiveness Improve economic competitiveness through reliable and timely access to employment centers, educational opportunities, services and other basic needs by workers as well as expanded business access to markets. "Timely access to employment centers" and "expanded business access" can only lead to urban living, as you will have to live near where you work to meet this and all of the other criteria.
4. Support existing communities Target federal funding toward existing communities—through such strategies as transit-oriented, mixed-use development and land recycling—to increase community revitalization, improve the efficiency of public works investments, and safeguard rural landscapes. "Mixed use development" is the backbone of urban development. You will receive funding, IF you use it to develop urban areas.
5. Coordinate policies and leverage investment. Align federal policies and funding to remove barriers to collaboration, leverage funding and increase the accountability and effectiveness of all levels of government to plan for future growth, including making smart energy choices such as locally generated renewable energy. The "barriers to collaboration" are local planning boards and private citizens who do not wish to follow the plan into an urban living style.
Smart energy choices are only smart if the government says they are.
6. Value communities and neighborhoods Enhance the unique characteristics of all communities by investing in healthy, safe, and walkable neighborhoods—rural, urban, or suburban. There it is again…"walkable communities" can only mean densely populated areas. There is rarely any money for "rural" development mentioned. In fact planners argue that rural communities already receive too many subsides.
