THANKS-TAKING

PostAuthor: crazy like a fox » Fri Nov 23, 2012 11:59 am

There are many conservatives disappointed after the election with some claiming America is now hopelessly lost to a big powerful leftist machine that will march America “Forward” to socialism.

Worse, there are those in the Republican Party reacting to this 2012 loss by blaming once again the message not the messenger. Some Party members are tripping over themselves to moderate the conservative positions thinking wrongly, once again, that concession is the answer.

The election results of 2012 continues to remind the country that our nation’s electorate is sadly still blindly influenced by a combination of selfish single issue minded voting and vulnerable to political gamesmanship.

Those thinking that big government socialism won this election over constitutionally restrained foundations need to understand the mixed results of the 2012 election. Although, Obama won a second term and the Senate picked up two more seats to stay controlled by Democrats, isn’t that a goal line defensive save rather than an offensive victory?

If a football team is awarded a two touchdown lead before the game starts and only scores a field goal throughout the game (2+ Senate seats) and the opponent loses in a close fought battle would we call the win a sweeping victory? Would we call it a mandate?

No. We would argue that the advantaged team defended their title but that the game was close enough to believe that a stronger opponent might have beat the odds. Political truth is that it is hard to unseat a sitting president especially if he stays in campaign mode for four years with an adoring media that airbrushes any of his imperfections.

Equally, we should not forget the “Archie Bunker rule” as I refer to the myriads of voters that only participate in presidential elections but fail to vote in congressional or off year elections. Voters that come out to the polls for the “big one” but otherwise do not exercise their civic duty remain politically naive and subject to mindless rationale and persuasion by political marketing.

Incumbency is and always will be a huge advantage for politicians and not just because they have the name recognition and big money backers but also because the public plays the “devil we know” calculus on their ballots. Winning against a sitting President is a challenge but winning against Chicago-style Acorn-organized below the political belt muckraking and race baiting Party proved insurmountable.

Remember conservative incumbency won in the House of Representatives that remain dominated by Republicans suggesting that this election was not a referendum on core principles and American values but rather a continuing resolution by voters to keep a divided government.

The other interesting news about 2012 election that denies the notion that America has chosen the road to Greece and away from traditional foundations are the local political outcomes. The Republican Party is still the dominate party locally holding the majority of state legislatures, governorships, lieutenant governorships, secretaries of state and half of the nation’s attorneys general.

Clearly the political debate over policy and ideology is still on-going and far from settled. If one looks at the country as a whole rather than just Washington’s incumbency win, conservative principles still retain their resurgence at the State level as more and more liberal States face bankrupt policies.

Wisconsin may not have gone to the Romney/Ryan ticket but following the left’s failure to recall Scott Walker the State legislature was won by Republicans. That clearly suggests an endorsement of fiscal restraint and conservatism at the local level even though Wisconsin re-elected Obama.
The “Archie Bunker rule” also reflects the lack of political astuteness that a voter’s real voice is heard the strongest in local elections while being the weakest in the national election that involves the Electoral College.

This Thanksgiving might be less cheerful for those Americans wishing to see a 2012 victory over Obama and the Democratic controlled Senate. Some might believe that Obama’s victory reflects a completely selfish electorate corrupted by the Obama government welfare sweepstakes give-away that will grow like Greece.

However, the 2012 election Takes-Giving is like the free turkey dinner for the poor on Thanksgiving in that one is left wondering what they will be served after the holiday when the donations slow? The Democrats can buy votes temporally but eventually their Robin Hood theft of the rich will need to be financed on the backs of moderate income earners or face the angry rattling empty plates of voters.

Republicans need to engage in the traditional values that in fact inspired the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Pilgrims celebrated with the Indians after harvesting a successful cultivation of a corn crop they learned from the native people. The pilgrims knew that corn among other native knowledge would allow them survival through the harsh long winter months.

The Pilgrims and native Indians shared a festive meal in celebration of self reliance. The Pilgrims didn’t join the Indian tribe or cede their principles or beliefs to the Indians. Republican Governors and State Houses need to exercise and cultivate successful State economies that don’t rely on Washington handouts.

Consider the dynamic already occurring without much spotlight, that States like California and Rhode Island have the worst economies while Texas and Wyoming rank as the best. Conservative principles work but too often in the past Republicans sell out to voters rather than show voters the real harvest produced by States with free enterprise, fewer regulations and smaller government fiscal restraint.

The message to Washington’s Republican Party is to not move from right to left but rather to get back into the fields and cultivate the grassroots’ traditions that founded this nation and get out of your pompous feathered nests. Patriots are still alive and well but we need to sow more urban fields with attainable dreams not political schemes.
Who am I? I am just a traditional American proud to be a citizen of America.

This seems like an article that should have been in ROC. It is one of the best articles you have written that I have read, although you have written many that I haven't. The "Thanks Taking" and "Takes-Giving" references are outstanding! Hope you and your family had an excellent Thanks-Giving. We surely did.

Thank You.

I am amazed at how deaf the Washington GOP has become to the growth of conservatism expanding in the States of America. States that are adopting fiscal restraint and De-regulation are attracting business and lower unemployment in their States while Democratic States continue to raise taxes and raise the both the unemployment rate and the growth of welfare dependency.

We need to spread the word that small government works and stay ready to defend American values in 2014. We might have lost a battle but we are far from losing the argument for freedom! :drinks

The opposite examples will become glaring and painful for the left in the next year or so. Keep on pushin'!!

We have come a long way since the original post and undoubtedly there is still a long way to go

Like the story of Thanksgiving with its evolving history, so too does the demonstration of future needs progress down the path towards a succinct pinnacle.

I hope everyone enjoys their Thanks giving Celebrations and spare a wish to those who cannot be with us to celebrate at this auspicious time in history

God Bless you all

Thanks Terry! Hope you had a great holiday yourself. Ours is Thanksgiving, what is yours called? Sorry I didn't get a notice of your post until this afternoon. Got so tired of coming here to sit with myself, I just decided to step back for a while. I never was one to play by myself. I need interaction with other than a keyboard. Thanks again. Remember my email address. Use it liberally.
